Checkley vs Newcastle and Hartshill.

Newcastle and Hartshill won by 33 runs.

Checkley won the toss and elected to field. Ryan Hassett made 27 at the top of the order for Castle before Rohan Vallabhaneni made a brilliant 88 that held their innings together. He struck ten 4s and three 6s in his 117 ball stay at the crease as he also added 61 with Hassett for the 3rd wicket. There wasn’t much support from the Castle middle order as Checkley continued to take wickets at regular intervals throughout. Sithembile Langa finished with figures of 4/28 as EJ Laverty and Richard Cooper both took two wickets each as Castle were bowled out for 199.

James Kettleborough made 40 at the top for Checkley, but once he was dismissed, they slumped to 73/6 before Laverty smashed an incredible 10-ball 31 as he went on the attack. After he was stumped, Jack Farrington and Cooper added 52 for the 9th wickets as they tried to claw themselves to victory, but once Farrington went for 36, last man Charlie Lewis couldn’t hang around with Cooper long enough as they were bowled all out for 166. Guy Bridgett was the pick of the Castle bowlers as he finished with 4/37. Theo Abel also claimed two wickets to help set up the victory.

Hem Heath vs Porthill.

Hem Heath won by 3 runs.

Porthill won the toss and elected to field. Only opener Matthew Hodson could register a score of note for the home side as they were bowled all out for 74 after being put in to bat. He made 22 as the Porthill bowlers made the most of the useful conditions. Matt Coxon took 5/43, and he was well backed up by the evergreen Craig Barker, who took 3/28 as the ball dominated bat in the first innings.

Things were no easier in Porthill’s innings, though. Liam Banks reduced them to 0/3 in the 3rd over, which soon became 7/4 as he was running riot with the new ball in his hand. Oliver Shirley made 19 as he looked to restore some calm to proceedings, but when Banks dismissed him, Porthill were 53/6 and in big trouble. Will Killgariff made an unbeaten 20, but it was Banks who was the hero for the home side. He finished with 7/27 before Ben Topley took the final wicket with Porthill still 4 runs away from victory to seal a remarkable victory for Hem Heath and break Porthill hearts.

Leek vs Longton.

Leek won by 6 wickets.

Leek won the toss and elected to field. Tom Hope made a patient 50 for Longton after they’d made a steady start. The Longton middle order failed to fire, though, and they collapsed from 102/4 to 149/9 as Matt Morris claimed figures of 3/15 to put the brakes on in the middle overs. He was well supported by Tom Moulton and Josh Hudson, who both claimed two wickets each as Longton closed on 155/9.

Hamaiz Mahmood made a patient 37 at the top of the order for Leek as they lost two quick wickets with the score on 40. It was 65/3 when Mahmood was removed, but Alex Mellor then added 70 with Sam Slater for the 4th wicket to move Leek to the brink of victory. Slater made 33, and Mellor finished unbeaten on 57 from 77 balls with five 4s to secure a comfortable victory for his side.

Moddershall vs Audley.

Moddershall won by 2 wickets.

Moddershall won the toss and elected to field. Oliver Wilde made 32 for Audley as they started well before they suffered a middle-order collapse to be bowled all out for 134 in the final over of their innings. They had been going well on 83/2 before Wilde was dismissed, but some accurate bowling from Danushka Sandaruwan, who claimed 3/18 from his 13 overs, pegged them back. Sam Atkinson finished with figures of 3/25 as he offered good support; there were also two wickets for Joe Hawkins.

Joe Hawkins then made 27 at number 3 as Moddershall started the chase well. But when Callum Hawkins was out for 21, the score was 92/5, and Moddershall began to wobble. Some fine bowling from Rob Hemmings had then reduced them to 123/8 before Sam Atkinson, who had watched the collapse happen from the other end, got his side over the winning line with an unbeaten 27. Hemmings finished with 4/33 as he tried to bowl his side to victory. Alex Coates and Ed Jones took two wickets each, but it wasn’t enough in the end.

Whitmore vs Stone.

Stone won by 90 runs.

Whitmore won the toss and elected to field. William Alsbury made a patient 56 at the top of the order for Stone as they started their innings well. He was supported by Jack Harvey, who made 37, Warrick Fynn, 38 and Joey Sharp, 30, as the Stone middle order backed up its good start. James Cope added a late 12 ball 27* as Stone declared on 236/7. Muhammad Imran bowled impressively for the home side. He returned figures of 5/64, but he was the only bowler to do any damage against the strong Stone batting line-up.

Imran then added 43 with the bat but found little support as Whitmore were bowled out for 146. He did add 52 for the 5th wicket with Ryan Roberts, who made 25, but it was never going to be enough to see the home side to victory. James Cope was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 3/33. Fynn also claimed 3/45 whilst James Green and Joey Sharp shared four wickets between them as Stone ran out comfortable winners.
