Alsager vs Norton-in-Hales.
Norton-in-Hales won by 6 runs.
Alsager won the toss and elected to field. Jack Furnival and Salman Khan added 73 for the 2nd wicket after the visitors lost an early wicket. Furnival made 34 from 25 balls and Khan 45 from 30 balls as they gave their side a good start. No other batter could really get going, and Norton-in-Hales closed on 142/8 from their 20 overs. Muzammil Nizam claimed 4/27 as he kept the middle order in check.
Kashif Bhatti made a 40-ball 55, which included two 4s and four 6s before he fell with 23 runs still needed for victory. Sam Goodwin then made 24, but a late flurry of wickets saw the home side come up short in their pursuit of victory. Sajith Priyal De Silva Lama Hewage claimed 3/29 and also has the longest name in North Staffs and South Cheshire cricket at the moment, as he kept his side in the hunt throughout. Chris Dyer was economical as he claimed 2/8 from 3 overs as the visitors ran out narrow victors.
Ashcombe Park vs Audley.
Audley won by 93 runs.
Audley won the toss and elected to bat. Ali Hamza Waseem made 35 at the top of the order as he shared an opening stand of 83 with Oliver Wilde, who batted throughout the innings for an unbeaten 50, which included four 4s and one six. The real fireworks came from Rob Hemmings, who blasted 62* from just 20 balls. His innings contained one four and eight 6s as he peppered the boundaries at Basford Bridge Lane as Audley ran up a daunting 174/2 from their allocation.
Only Jamie Ball, who made 27 at number 10, could do anything against the Audley bowling attack. Alex Coates took early wickets as he ended up with 3/15, whilst Freddie Doorbar and Ben Mellor both claimed 2 wickets each as Ashcombe were bowled all out for just 81 to give the visitors a comfortable victory.
Eccleshall vs Moddershall.
Moddershall won by 117 runs.
Moddershall won the toss and elected to bat. Callum Hawkins made 49 off just 33 balls to give his side the perfect start. He was well supported by his brother Joe, who made a run-a-ball 40 and Sam Kelsall, who added a 26-ball 33 as Moddershall pilled up 185/7 from their allocation. Myles Coughlan claimed 3/32 but didn’t receive any support in the bowling department.
No Eccleshall batter got going in the second innings, and they were bundled out for just 68 with Aizaz Ahmed taking 5/7 and Joe Hawkins 3/5 as the visitors secured a crushing victory.
Elworth vs Hem Heath.
Hem Heath won by 8 wickets.
Elworth won the toss and elected to bat. Only Ed Parrish, 25 and Gursharan Singh, 23, could do anything against a strong Hem Heath bowling unit as the home side closed on 75/9 from their 20 overs. Dan Richardson finished with figures of 3/9, and Liam Banks captured 3/12 to restrict the home side’s batters.
Matthew Hodson made a run-a-ball 31, which contained six 4s and along with Banks, who made 37 from just 22 balls with four 4s and one six, took Hem Heath to the brink of victory before they were both dismissed by Oliver Bone as the visitors secured a comfortable victory with 11 overs remaining.
Meakins vs Stone.
Meakins won the toss and elected to bat. Jalat Khan blasted an unbeaten 79 off just 40 balls in a batting blitz that propelled the home side to 178/5 from their 20 overs. Khan smashed five 4s and seven 6s as he shared 86 for the 5th wicket with Jon Clowes in just 6.4 overs. Clowes made a 17-ball 39 as he smashed one four and five maximums, as only Jack Harvey, who claimed 2/30, could do anything to stop the chaos.
Warrick Fynn made a 38-ball 53 at the top of the order for Stone, which contained seven 4s and one six as he got the chase off to a good start. He didn’t receive any meaningful support, and the visitors were bowled all out for 139 in the final over. Khan backed up his batting blitz with 4/30 as his fine form continues. Karl High claimed 2/9 as he was economical with the new ball as the home side secured a comfortable victory.
Whitmore vs Longton.
Whitmore won by 5 wickets.
Whitmore won the toss and elected to field. Only Ewan Farnell, who made a 40-ball 42 which contained two 4s and three 6s, saved his team from total embarrassment as they were bowled all out for just 88, which included 13 extras. Muhammad Imran claimed 4/12. Dilesh Gunarathne and Matthew McAll shared four wickets between them as the home bowlers did a fine job.
Ryan Roberts made 32 in the chase as Whitmore limped across the line with 3 overs to spare. Matheesha Perera and Alfie Ridgway claimed two wickets each, but it wasn’t enough for the visitors.
I understand that Checkley beat Bagnall Norton, too, although the scorecard doesn’t say by how much the final margin of victory was. Bagnall Norton won the toss and chose to field. Nils Priestley blasted 77 from just 42 balls with nine 4s and four 6s as he added 138 for the 1st wicket with James Abbotts. Abbotts departed for an excellent 75 from 55 that included five 4s and six 6s as the home side racked up 203/3 from their 20 overs.
Bagnall Norton then reached 88/4 from 12 overs when the match ended. I’m not sure if there was rain in the first innings and they were chasing a reduced target in their innings, or if it rained during their innings to bring the match to an early close. Hafiz Suleman made 43 from 32 balls with three 4s and three 6s before he was dismissed. Priestley finished with 2/14 from 3 overs as he was the pick of the bowlers.
