This will be the final part of my summary that looks at teams at the top and bottom of Divisions 6 to 8. I’ll again be looking at leading run scorers, top wicket takers and the players with the safest hands.

Division 6.

  1. Wood Lane 2nd XI 208 – points.
  2. Market Drayton – 181 points.
  3. Meakins 3rd XI – 160 points.

Wood Lane have amassed 8 wins and 3 draws as they are unbeaten so far. They hold a 27 point lead over Market Drayton who have 7 victories thus far as they occupy the second promotion spot. Meakins lie a further 19 points behind the promotion places with 6 wins as they’ll need a good run to break into the top two. Wood Lane look very strong and should secure promotion sooner rather than later.

  1. Meir Heath 2nd XI – 100 points.
  2. Wedgwood 2nd XI – 94 points.
  3. Kidsgrove 2nd XI – 87 points.
  4. Blythe 2nd XI – 68 points.

Blythe are rooted to bottom of the table with just a solitary win and 3 draws to their name. They’re 26 points away from safety and have a huge battle on their hands if they are going to beat the drop. Kidsgrove and Wedgwood both have 2 wins as they’re separated by only 7 points. Meir Heath are 13 points above the drop zone with 3 wins. Blythe look doomed so it appears to be 3 teams for the final relegation place with not a lot between them.

Leading run scorers.

  1. Matthew Hagan (Wood Lane 2nd XI) 440 runs @ 62.86 with Four 50s – HS 96* vs Stafford 3rd XI.

  3. Robert Howell (Nantwich Saturday 3’s) 322 runs @ 64.4 with Three 50s – HS 85* vs Meir Heath 2nd XI.
  4. Brad Evans (Market Drayton) 309 runs @ 34.33 with Three 50s – HS 86 vs Wood Lane 2nd XI.
  5. Fahar Ul Islam (Hem Heath 4th XI) 277 runs @ 30.78 with Two 50s – HS 62 vs Market Drayton.

Division 7.

  1. Checkley 3rd XI – 209 points.
  2. Congleton 2nd XI – 192 points.
  3. Little Stoke 3rd XI – 179 points.

Checkley have accrued 9 wins as they lead the way by 17 points. Congleton trail them by 17 points and have managed 7 wins as they sit in the second promotion spot. Little Stoke also have 7 wins as they lurk just points behind the top two. Checkley have built up a good buffer over the rest and are currently favourites to go up leaving the other two sides to battle it out for second.

  1. Hanford 2nd XI – 91 points.
  2. Sandbach 2nd XI – 88 points.
  3. Woore 2nd XI – 59 points.

Woore look to be struggling and have only managed 2 draws all season and look favourites to finish bottom of the league as their already 32 points away from safety. It’s going to take a big effort for them to avoid the drop. Sandbach and Hanford look like they’re going to battle it out for the final relegation spot as they others have a healthy advantage over them. Hanford currently have 3 wins to Sandbach’s 2 as this fight may go all the way down to the wire.

Leading run scorers.

  1. Simon Prime (Congleton 2nd XI) 475 runs @ 67.86 with Six 50s – HS 82* vs Oakamoor 4th XI.

  5. Nicholas Hunt (Checkley 3rd XI) 17 wickets @ 6 – BB 4/4 vs Rode Park & Lawton 3rd XI.

Top Keepers & Fielders.

  1. Charles Wright (Congleton 2nd XI) 14 victims. 11 catches and 3 stumpings.
  2. Joshy Handy (Little Stoke 3rd XI) 11 victims. 5 catches, 4 stumpings and 2 run outs.
  3. Joe Lawton (Checkley 3rd XI) 11 victims. 9 catches and 2 stumpings.

Division 8.

  1. Caverswall 2nd XI – 154 points.
  2. Meakins 4th XI – 154 points
  3. Stone 4th XI – 151 points.
  4. Audlem 2nd XI – 149 points.

Just 5 points separate the top 4 sides as this looks could be a barnstorming race for promotion. Caverswall are joint leaders with Meakins and currently have 6 wins. Meakins too have won 6 matches. Stone trail the top two by only 3 points with 6 wins also. Audlem sit only 5 points behind the top two with 7 wins as any two of theses teams could seal promotion in what looks like the best race of them all this season.

  1. Church Eaton 2nd XI – 58 points.
  2. Cheadle 4th XI – 27 points.

Cheadle are winless and rooted to the foot of the table and face a tough challenge if they wish to catch Church Eaton, who themselves only have one victory to their name which was over Cheadle.

  1. John Baker (Caverswall 2nd XI) 274 runs @ 39.14 with Two 50s – HS 97 vs Stone 4th XI.
