Bagnall Norton vs Hem Heath.

Bagnall Norton won the toss and elected to bat. Only Hafiz Suleman could get to grips with a disciplined Hem Heath bowling attack. He made 40 from 50 balls with five 4s and a six as the home side were bowled out for just 92. Bilawal Bhatti claimed three early wickets and finished with figures of 3/35. Tom Hodson offered fine support and bagged 3/23 to complete the rout.
The visitors took just 12.1 overs to chase the target. Bhatti smashed a remarkable 57* from just 27 balls after Hem Heath had fallen to 26/4. His innings contained two 4s and a mammoth seven 6s as he belted his side to victory. Morgan Murray-Williams picked up 3/32, but he couldn’t stop the home side falling to defeat.
Barlaston vs Whitmore.
Whitmore won by 3 wickets.
Barlaston won the toss and elected to bat. Joe Beeston made 44 from 38 at the top of the order for the home side. He struck six 4s and two 6s to get them off to a quick start. Charlie Fisher (31) with three 4s and Rory Jones (35) with two 4s and two 6s added 56 for the 3rd wicket as the home side moved into a good position. they then lost 5/56 to close on 186/8 from their 40 overs. Aaqil Mohideen snaffled 3/34 with Bilal Hussain grabbing 2/36 as they put the brakes on the home side.
Fraser James scored a run-a-ball 49 with five 4s and three 6s as he got the chase off to a positive start. Mohideen then made an unbeaten 70 from 75 balls with fourteen boundaries to see the visitors home with 9.3 overs to spare. Jones claimed 4/51 for the home side, but it wasn’t enough to stop Whitmore moving into the next round.
Checkley vs Ashcombe Park.
Checkley won by 6 wickets.
Checkley won the toss and elected to bowl. Haroon Mahmood struck five 4s and a six in his run-a-ball 37 at the top of the order for the visitors. Max Hill made 35 with six boundaries as they shared 79 for the opening wicket. No other Ashcombe batters could make a score of note, though, and they were bowled out for 166. Charlie Lewis claimed 4/41 as he was the pick of the bowlers for the home side.
Elliot Boardwell struck a quickfire 41 from just 29 balls with five 4s and two 6s as Checkley recovered well from losing two early wickets. Michael Allen (45) and Hugo Schroder (29) then added an unbroken 85 to seal a comfortable win for Checkley in just 21.3 overs. Allen smote eight 4s in his innings, and Schroder added a further four boundaries in his innings.
Elworth vs Eccleshall.
Eccleshall won by 7 wickets.
Elworth won the toss and elected to bat. Ed Parish made a run-a-ball 45 with seven 4s before Jarrod McKay added a 73-ball 77 with three 4s and six 6s as the home side recovered from 59/6 to post 188 all out. Matthew Wright claimed 3/29 and Murvin Abinash took 3/33 to put the visitors in a strong position at the tea break.
Ben Rogerson smashed 118* from 115 balls with sixteen 4s and four 6s to comfortably see his side over the line with 7.4 remaining. The opener added 148 with Eranga Dissanagge, who made 44 with six 4s, for the 3rd wicket after Eccleshall fell to 30/2. It was a fine innings from the Eccleshall opener, and it guided his side to a well-deserved victory.
Endon vs Alsager.
Endon won by 2 wickets.
Endon won the toss and elected to bowl. Waqas Hussain made 94 from just 73 balls with thirteen 4s and four 6s after the visitors had been reduced to 66/5. He received very little support, and Alsager were bowled all out for 182. Simon Read, Josh Reynolds, Jack Chell and Owen Sims all took 2 wickets for the home side.
Endon were struggling on 74/6 before Read made a patient 51* with six 4s and a six to guide them to victory with just 3 balls to spare. Sam Waterhouse added 21 before he retired, but it was Read who was the batting hero. Joshua Khan took 3/26 to help set up the grandstand finish, but it wasn’t enough for the visitors.
Knypersley vs Meakins.
Meakins won by 22 runs.
Meakins won the toss and elected to bat. Ash Shaw made 46 with seven 4s and a six as he got the visitors off to a good start. Jalat Khan then made 53 from 47 balls with four 4s and a six before Karl High added an unbeaten 40 with four boundaries as the visitors closed on 215/8 from their 40 overs. Toby Fallows and Jacob Cumberbatch shared 4 wickets.
Shoaib Akhtar started the chase well when he made 55 from 67 balls with two 4s and four 6s. Ahsan Hafeez Bhatti then added 65 with six 4s before Joe Dutton made an unbeaten 36 with three 4s and a six as the home side couldn’t overhaul their target. High, Tariq Mughal and Khan shared 6 wickets between them as they restricted the home side’s batters and secured their place in the next round.
Leycett vs Newcastle & Hartshill.
Newcastle & Hartshill won by 34 runs.
Newcastle & Hartshill won the toss and elected to bat. Ryan Hassett made 24 with five 4s before Mo Rameez added 28 as run scoring proved to be tough. Simon Wood (21) and Matt Bailey (22*) dragged Castle to 179/9 from their 40 overs. There were also 39 extras from the home side, which helped the visitors. Tom Warburton claimed 4/30 as he was the pick of the bowlers of the home side.
Charlie Griffiths made 55 with six 4s at the top of the order for Leycett, but he couldn’t find enough support from his teammates, and they were bowled out for 145. Joe Thorne grabbed 4/31. Rameez and Kasun Ekanayaka shared four wickets to book Castle’s place in round 2 and, more importantly, for them, the Dennis Elliott trophy.
Longton vs Rode Park & Lawton.
Longton won by 35 runs.
Longton won the toss and elected to bat. Dane Tinsley made 71 from 64 balls with nine 4s and a six as he added 151 for the 4th wicket with Matheesha Perera, who made 66 with ten 4s and a six as Longton recovered well from 30/3. Ewan Farnell then added a 25-ball 40* with two 4s and three 6s to boost the home side to 249/7 from their 40 overs. Lee Evans was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors as he finished with 3/35.
Oliver Gallimore made 56 from 46 balls with eight 4s and a six as the visitors went about chasing the big total down. Joel Gallimore made 428 with six 4s along with Dan Forster, who added 32 with four 4s and a six, but it wasn’t enough to see the visitors into the next round as they closed on 214/8 from their 40 overs. Nalin Priyadarshan, Brodie Mack and Perera shared 6 wickets to make sure there was no upset in this tie.

Stone vs Leek

Leek won the toss and elected to bat. Hamaiz Mahmood made a patient 69 at the top of the order for Leek. His innings included nine 4s and a six. Alex Mellor offered good support as he made 46 from 50 balls with a four and a six to take Leek to 133/2 before they collapsed to 199/9 from their 40 overs. Ed Batchelor and Mikey Parker shared 4 wickets between them.
Daniel Lunn made 42 from 45 balls with five 4s as he added 84 for the 5th wicket with Batchelor, who made a run-a-ball 39 with two boundaries as Stone recovered well after they fell to 69/4. Euan Irving made 21, but Stone came up short when they were bowled all out for 193 in the final over. Anis Raza bagged 5/36 with his left-arm spin as Leek snuck into the next round.
Wood Lane vs Silverdale.
Silverdale won by 5 wickets.
Wood Lane won the toss and elected to bat. Tom Boundy struck a fine 126 from just 98 balls with ten 4s and seven 6s as he added 161 for the first wicket with Louis Kidd, who made 60 from 84 balls with seven 4s and a six. Ben Forster then made 21, but the home side could not make the most of their fine start and closed on 244/9 off their 40 overs. George Hickman grabbed 4/23 as he was the pick of the visitors’ bowlers.
Josh Cartledge made 40 at the top of the order for Silverdale with six 4s and a six before Josh Rhodes smashed 72 from just 41 balls as he was in no mood to mess around after the tea interval. He blazed nine 4s and three 6s as Silverdale chased their total down in just 28.2 overs. Wood Lane conceded and an eye-watering 67 extras that included 59 wides as they exited the competition.
The winners from this round will join Moddershall, Porthill, Oakamoor and Audley in round 2.
