I don’t normally do a round-up for Premier B. However, with the end of the season fast approaching, I think it’s the perfect time to take a look at the teams that could be looking at a chance of promotion. If this gets a lot of interest, and time allows, I will look at doing it on a more regular basis.
Ashcombe Park vs Barlaston.
Ashcombe Park won by 5 wickets.
Barlaston won the toss and elected to bat. Brian Sims made 27 with six boundaries at the top of the innings for the visitors as they got off to a good start. Tom Taylor then made 32 with five fours before he was the 4th wicket to fall with the score on 106. Jack Davies made a 27-ball 32 with seven fours as he added 51 for the 5th wicket with Rory Jones. Jones made a patient 37 from 71 balls with four fours and a six before he became the first of Riecko Parker Cole’s 4 wickets as he kept the visitors in check. He finished with 4/72 as Barlaston closed on 216/9 from their 55 overs.
Charlie Knott made a run-a-ball 45 with seven fours and two sixes before he was the second wicket to fall with 79 on the board. Haroon Mahmood then came to the crease and struck a fine 58 with ten fours as he added 73 for the 4th wicket with Asif Raza. Raza smashed a 29-ball 36 with seven boundaries as he took the home side to the brink of victory. Joe Harrison then added an unbeaten 22 to see them to a comfortable victory with more than 15 overs to spare.
Bagnall Norton vs Hem Heath 2nd XI.
Bagnall Norton won by 99 runs.
Hem Heath won the toss and elected to bowl. Matthew Arnold compiled a fine 116* at the top of the order as he carried his bat throughout the innings. He faced 130 balls and struck fourteen fours and a six as he set the perfect platform for his side. Hafiz Suleman added a run-a-ball 32 with five boundaries before Matthew Kenvyn blazed 51* from just 35 balls with six fours and two sixes before Bagnall Norton declared on an imposing 248/3.
Ben Ford made 81 in reply for the visitors; his innings contained thirteen fours and two sixes, but apart from 24 from Saj Patel and 20 from Jaidel Richardson, Hem Heath had no answers to the disciplined home bowling attack. Scott Winnington took wickets up front with the new ball and returned to polish off the tail as he finished with excellent figures of 5/29 as Bagnall Norton secured their 12th victory of the season.
Cheadle vs Alsager.
Cheadle won by 174 runs.
Alsager won the toss and elected to bowl. Austen Crump led the way for the home side with 86 from 107 balls that included sixteen boundaries. He added 123 for the 3rd wicket with Ali Khan, who went on to make 95 from 111 deliveries, containing eight fours and four sixes as Cheadle powered their way to a mammoth 270/7 from their 55 overs. Muzammil Nizam claimed 3/79 for the visitors, but they were unable to stop the powerful Cheadle batting line-up.
The Alsager reply never got off the ground, and they lost wickets regularly as they were bowled out for just 96. William Dobbie continued his fine season with the ball as he picked up 3/16. Jack Hassell bagged 3/21 to secure a crushing victory for the home side. It was their 10th win of an impressive campaign so far.
Norton-In-Hales vs Knypersley.
Knypersley won by 83 runs.
Norton-In-Hales won the toss and elected to bowl. Shoaib Akhtar smashed an imposing 146 from just 125 balls with twenty-one fours and four sixes as he powered the visitors to 250 all out. He added 117 with Paul Goodwin (56) for the 5th wicket. Goodwin struck 12 fours in his 99-ball knock before the lower order collapsed as they chased late runs. Salman Khan took 3/54 from 13 overs to keep the visitors from compiling even more. Sajith Lama Hewage took 3/5 as he ran through the tail.
Ronan Farnell made 36 with three fours at the top of the order for the home side. He added 58 for the opening wicket with Fred Furnival (28). The home side then collapsed to 96/5 before Lama Hewage added 30 from 38 balls with six fours as he looked to rebuild the innings. He was the 8th wicket to fall with 163 on the board. The end came quickly after that as the home side were bowled out for 167. Joe Dutton claimed 3/21 as he was the pick of the bowlers. He received good support from Toby Fallows, who bagged 3/47 to secure a comfortable victory for the visitors.
Stone 2nd XI vs Elworth.
Elworth won by 2 wickets.
Elworth won the toss and elected to bowl. Stone found themselves in early trouble after Jarrod McKay and Alex Banks took early wickets with the new ball to leave them 41/3. This became 89/5 before Phil Cheadle mounted a middle-order recovery mission. With their backs to the wall, Cheadle struck a fine 78 from 120 balls with ten fours as he dragged Stone up to 195 all out. He added a crucial 33 with Mikey Parker for the 9th wicket as Stone got up to a competitive total. Banks was the pick of the Elworth bowlers. He finished with 3/35 from 10 overs. McKay (3/41) and Chris Winter (3/60) offered fine support.
Russ Ballard made a patient 35 from 106 balls with six fours at the top of the order for the visitors. Araash Raheja made 71 from 90 balls with twelve fours and a six as he added 99 with Ballard for the 2nd wicket. An incredible collapse then followed. Elworth lost 4 wickets for just 2 runs in 19 balls as they fell to 112/5. Harry Newton then made a composed 33 with five boundaries as he added 56 for the 6th wicket with Adam Taylor, but two more quick wickets for Stone left the visitors on 169/7. McKay made an unbeaten 16 to see his side to the brink of victory before Stephan Morgan secured a narrow 2-wicket victory with a six. Parker claimed 3/30, and Reuben Hall snared 3/47, but it wasn’t enough in the end for the home side.
Wood Lane vs Rode Park & Lawton.
Wood Lane won by 127 runs.
Wood Lane won the toss and elected to bat. Martin Dawson got the home side off to a good start as he made 38 with six fours and a six. No other batter could get going, and the visitors picked up wickets at regular intervals, and Wood Lane slipped to 137/8. Enter Zaighum Abbas, who took the attacking option. He blasted 59 from just 29 balls with seven fours and four sixes to lift Wood Lane to 217 all out. Jamie Heath claimed 4/52 from 13 overs as he was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors. Joel Gallimore and Richard Bebbington shared 4 wickets between them.
Abbas’ fine afternoon then continued as he ran through the Rode Park & Lawton order to finish with incredible figures of 8/30 as he simply blew the visitors away to secure a comfortable victory for his team.
